Microsoft plans to double its budget for pay raises. The company plans to increase the range of annual equity awards by at least 25% and grant performance-based pay raises. Microsoft has about 180,000 employees worldwide, including 103,000 in the United States.
The Seattle-based tech giant is trying to retain its employees after losing some to rivals such as Amazon. There, the maximum base salary for corporate employees more than doubled from $160,000 to $350,000.
Microsoft’s pay hikes, which take effect in September, come amid rising inflation and a competitive job market, particularly in advanced technology fields such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
