AI director Pentagon: pace, pace – China pulls away in ki sector

The Pentagon’s director of artificial intelligence, Lt. Gen. Michael Groen stated that the U.S. must take significant steps to improve its AI if it wants to beat China, saying it must be a doer rather than a coordinator.

China aims to dominate the artificial intelligence field by 2030. Experts estimate it will have become a 16-ton industry by 2030.

Groen cited a 2002 shareholder letter from Jeff Bezos that said the Pentagon’s various departments need to collaborate more and present a unified front.

The AI director said China is currently executing its 14th five-year plan to achieve its goal of AI supremacy by 2030, while the U.S. is currently drafting its 14th AI-based program goal memorandum.
