Prime Day the greatest ever

San Francisco, 7/13/2023

According to Amazon, the two-day Prime Day event was its biggest ever, with the first 24 hours hailed as “the biggest day of sales in the company’s history.”

According to Adobe Analytics, U.S. online sales during Prime Day grew 6.1% to $12.7 billion. While those results marked a new record, they fell short of the 9.5% growth Adobe had anticipated.

Shoppers bought more than 375 million items over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Amazon, compared to 300 million last year. In particular, the areas of household appliances, electronics, clothing and office supplies recorded significant sales increases. Numerator data also showed that the average order size was $54.05, compared to $52.26 at last year’s Prime Day event.

Trends: Smartphones accounted for 44.8% of sales on the second day, up from 41.5% a year earlier. Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) was leveraged on 6.5% of orders and resulted in $927 million in revenue, a 20% year-over-year increase.
