The pandemic brought a huge surge in demand for tablets of all kinds. For example, according to Canalys, the third quarter of 2020 — right before the peak of the “Stay At Home” movement — saw a 47% year-over-year increase in tablet shipments.
But after the pandemic, the majority of people are back in offices and classrooms. The need for tablets to attend class or work from home has decreased.
This is reflected in the tablet deliveries. According to market research firm IDC, the total number of tablet shipments in the April-June quarter was 10.5 million, down 16.8% year-on-year.
The latest data from Canalys paints a completely different picture, with a total of 12.4 million tablets shipped – a modest 2% increase year-on-year.
