Longtime Microsoft executive Panos Panay is confirmed as the new head of Amazon’s devices and services business, replacing outgoing hardware chief Dave Limp.
Panay will lead the Amazon division responsible for products such as Alexa, Echo smart speakers, Ring doorbells, Fire streaming devices and Kindle e-readers.
Panay, known for his Microsoft Surface presentations over the years, will be joining Amazon at the end of October. He recently left Microsoft, where he was responsible for developing Surface PC devices and Windows 11.
His successor Limp is now taking on the role of CEO at Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ space company.
Panay’s move to Amazon signals a possible change in direction at the company’s D&S division, which was hit by some layoffs last year.
