Hackers have launched new phishing _ campaign
San Francisco, Feb. 2, 2022
Cybersecurity firm Secureworks reports that hackers have launched a new phishing campaign to take control of Instagram accounts of celebrities and influencers and demand ransom.
The hackers impersonate Instagram accounts and send them messages informing them of copyright infringement. Instagram users receive a link where they supposedly enter their credentials. But by doing so, they give the hackers a chance to take control of the account .
Secureworks believes that the campaign was launched last year and that the hackers have hijacked an unspecified number of accounts. The hacked accounts are being sold for $40,000.
The hackers have not yet been identified, but Secureworks believes they are from Russia and Turkey. Secureworks discovered the campaign last October.
