Electric Sheep Robotics announced a $21.5 million Series A funding round and general availability of its Dexter robot. The system, which retrofits commercial lawn mowers with self-propelled technology, is being marketed as a way to address labor shortages in the landscaping industry.
Landscapers „train“ Dexter by showing it the mowing path of a customer’s lawn. Then, using cameras, GPS and ultrasonic sensors, the system navigates the path on its own.
The technology is leased through a robot-as-a-service (RaaS) model.
The latest funding, led by Tiger Global, brings Electric Sheep’s total funding to $25.7 million. The startup claims to be the most heavily capitalized company in the autonomous mowing space.
Electric Sheep plans to use the capital to expand and meet growing demand. Currently, the company says it has 30 customers in the U.S.
