Google has expanded its Bard AI chatbot to the European Union and Brazil, offering new features including support for over 40 languages. Europe is one of the last regions to have access to Bard, Google’s ChatGPT competitor.
According to Google, the delay is primarily due to uncertainties surrounding compliance with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Along with the broader rollout, Bard can now speak answers aloud to users, such as helping them pronounce words or responding to image prompts.
Users can also customize the tone and style of replies, pin and rename conversations, and share replies with friends.
The extension could increase Bard’s awareness and visibility, giving it a greater competitive advantage over Microsoft-backed competitor OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT.
According to the latest trust survey from Vox Media and The Verge, nearly 60% of respondents had used or heard of ChatGPT, versus just 38% with Bard.
