Swedish price comparison company „PriceRunner“ , is seeking $2.4 billion from Google for allegedly violating European antitrust laws. The lawsuit comes after a European court ruled that Google violated the law when it favored its own price comparison services over competitors.
PriceRunner is seeking compensation for the harm Google has caused to its business and to consumers, who have suffered enormously as a result of Google’s breach of competition law.“
PriceRunner alleges that Google continues to abuse its dominant position, causing the amount of damages to increase daily. The lawsuit asks Google to pay for profits PriceRunner has lost in the U.K., Sweden and Denmark since 2008 or later.
A Google spokesperson responded that PriceRunner may not have achieved the same success as other companies because it chose not to run shopping ads on Google.
In November, the EU court upheld the decision to fine Google $2.8 billion in an antitrust case. The court found that Google favored its shopping comparison service on its search engine by displaying and positioning it better, while downgrading those of its competitors.
