Tesla faces racial discrimination lawsuit

San Francisco, 2/12/2022

The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) plans to file a lawsuit against Tesla for alleged racial discrimination and harassment at its Fremont, Calif. factory. Tesla confirmed the potential lawsuit in a blog post Wednesday, calling it „misguided“ and defending the company’s recent actions to promote a fairer and safer workplace.
The lawsuit will reportedly focus on alleged misconduct by Tesla production workers at the factory between 2015 and 2019.
The electric carmaker claims the DFEH never raised concerns about its workplace practices during a previous three-year investigation.
Tesla plans to ask the court for a stay in the case to obtain more evidence.
Previous lawsuits have accused the company of doing little to address sexual harassment, racial discrimination and a hostile work environment at the factory.
In October, a jury ordered Tesla to pay a black contract worker $137 million for racism in the workplace.
