New scam with COVID-19

WASHINGTON,6.4.2020

The Internal Revenue Service today urged taxpayers to respond to unusual emails allegedly coming from the IRS. Because these are primarily email phishing attempts, they should not be opened, as they are related to the coronavirus, or COVID-19. Anyone who ignores this warning will face tax fraud and identity theft. Taxpayers can find up-to-date information on IRS.gov.

„History has shown that criminals take every opportunity to defraud unsuspecting victims, especially when a group of people is vulnerable or in need,“ said Don Fort, the chief of the IRS criminal investigation department. „While you wait to hear about your payment for the economic impact, criminals are working hard to trick you into getting their hands on the payment. The IRS Criminal Investigation Department is working hard to find these scammers and take them out.
