Build “surveillance networks” with Clearview?
New York, May 6, 2020
Ton – That, Clearview CEO, said his company is in discussion with several federal agencies and three states. You want to use facial recognition software to track COVID-19 patients. Markey then sent a letter to Ton-That for more information. He wanted to know which government agencies used their facial recognition tools during the pandemic. The software can match people from photos to a database of public images collected from social media websites. The company’s customers included ICE, Secret Service, DEA and hundreds more.
In a tweet, Markey said companies like Clearview could use contact tracking as a front to develop “surveillance networks” for constant shadowing.
Ton-That told NBC News that once the economy buzzes, it will be necessary to quickly test people and determine who infected people have come in contact with. This would be done by cameras that are in public space.
One of Clearview’s investors is venture capitalist Peter Thiel, co-founder of Palantir Technologies, PayPal and Founders Fund.
