Do antitrust investigations slow down technical progress?

Dakota Foster of Oxford University is researching how the ongoing antitrust investigations into big tech will impact AI and national security.

According to Foster, the U.S. Department of Justice and other agencies are investigating potential anti-competitive practices and other antitrust violations by Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft. The results of these investigations will „almost certainly“ impact our national security and defense strategies, Foster said.

AI will become more involved in national defense strategy, with the Pentagon turning to technology to gain a military advantage. As a result, antitrust proceedings against America’s technology companies – and its biggest innovators – could also affect AI and the country’s technological progress.
