Google could face antitrust lawsuits this summer
Washington, 4.8.2020
The Ministry of Justice and a coalition of attorneys general are taking steps to file antitrust suits against Google as early as this summer. This was reported by several newspapers (e.g. Politico, WSJ) in the USA.
After more than a year of probing, they would make the search and advertising giant the first major technology company. Facebook, Amazon and Apple were also targeted as possible targets.
The antitrust investigations into Google, Facebook and other Silicon Valley powers would be at the top of Attorney General William Barr’s priority list. He had stressed that he wanted to reach a decision on Google by the summer.
Insiders report that the state and U.S. territory investigation, involving more than 50 attorneys general, is lagging somewhat behind the Justice Department investigation, but the group is well on track to reach a decision on a lawsuit by the fall.
