Musk: Tesla ‘Battery Day’, shareholder meeting probably on 15 September
The Chairman of the Board of Tesla Inc. Elon Musk, said September 15 is the tentative date for the company’s annual shareholders meeting and Battery Day, when the electric car maker is expected to reveal significant advances in battery technology.
The battery event, which Musk called “one of the most exciting days in Tesla’s history,” was previously scheduled for May, while the shareholders’ meeting was scheduled for July 7.
Tesla’s chief executive stated in an official request on Monday that he would postpone the shareholders’ meeting “due to ongoing restrictions on face-to-face meetings imposed by the relevant government agencies.
Battery Day will include a tour of the company’s cell production system. Tesla and China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd. are jointly developing batteries designed to last one million miles and allow electric Tesla cars to be sold profitably at the same price or less than a gasoline car, some insiders said.
With a global fleet of more than 1 million electric vehicles that can be connected to and share electricity with the grid, Tesla’s goal is to achieve the status of an energy company that can compete with such traditional energy providers as Pacific Gas & Electric and Tokyo Electric Power, these sources said.
