Huawei was just the beginning

By Horst Buchwald, 18.7.2020

As recently as January, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson insisted to the US President and his envoys that he would grant the Chinese a „limited role“ in the 5G construction. More precisely: up to 35% of the non-core 5G network. But after several rounds of barbecue with the Americans, Johnson got too hot. Now all Huawei components must be removed from the 5G network by 2027. Have Johnson and Trump considered the consequences? Sure: The Chinese will not put up with this. Trump has thus achieved what he wanted: the Chinese are to provide him and his ally Johnson with further targets.

What the hell is this? Well, Trump wasn’t exactly successful with his trade war. On the contrary, in the American media, he’s been accused that his three and a half years at the top of the state were years lost. The gap between rich and poor was aggravated by his tax policy – it only benefited the billionaire. Meanwhile, the damage to the infrastructure is assuming ever more dangerous proportions. About 2 trillion dollars would have to be invested here. But where will Trump get the money from? The deficits are also growing in the areas of education, training and health. Even now, there can be no talk of „America First“. The American elite no longer rules out the possibility that China will overtake the USA in 2025.

It is not only the headless anti-corona policy that has caused Trump’s survey results to drop to 43%. The US economy fell by 4.8% in the first quarter of 2020. But this is not a slip. More catastrophic figures are expected for the second quarter.

Some of Trump’s supporters have laughed at the trillions of dollars that the Chinese government pumped into the economy in early May. But in the meantime they have stopped laughing. Leading economists already see China in the forefront in the areas of artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, renewable energies, robotics and autonomous vehicles. So it doesn’t help much when the Trump cave in the White House says that „market forces“ are not the decisive factor in China. So what do the Chinese say – our cat cat catches mice. What does yours do? Hiding from the 30 million unemployed.

How does a Donald Trump, who obviously has his back against the wall, react in such situations?
