How do you recognize a pest infestation?

Malware tries to remain undetected in order to use the infected computer for its own goals as long as possible. Nevertheless, you can recognize from certain symptoms that a computer may have caught malware:

• The computer shuts down without being asked, it can no longer be started or the system suddenly crashes.

• The computer works slower than usual (due to increased processor utilization).

• The Internet speed is slower than usual (due to increased data traffic).

• Increased display of unwanted Internet content such as advertising pop-up windows, automatic redirects to unused Internet addresses or the sudden appearance of a new homepage, search engine or new toolbars in the web browser.

• Programs are suddenly faulty or crash. Some malware can also disable antivirus programs and firewalls, which can be another indicator of malware infection.
