Who leads in AI patent filings?

Samsung filed the most AI patents last year, followed by Alphabet, Intel, IBM and Microsoft. This is according to the report just released by the GlobalData Disruptor Intelligence Center.

Overall, more AI/ML/robotics patents were filed as companies seek to automate their business processes.

Five of the top 10 companies are based in the U.S., with the rest coming from China, Japan and South Korea. Nearly 25% of the Alphabets – filings come from AI subsidiaries DeepMind and Waym. One looks in vain for a European company here.

AI patent applications make it clear who is leading the way in AI innovation. They are also an indication of companies‘ future digital strategies.
