New York, 3/30/2021

OpenAI’s natural language processing model GPT-3 is currently used in 300 apps by 10,000 developers and generates 4.5 billion words per day. Meanwhile, „Wired“ reports ,

that GPT-3 may have a rival in Eleuther. This is also an open source product. The new model version, GPT-Neo, is said to be about as „powerful as the least sophisticated version of GPT-3“.

While the successes of GPT-3 are undeniable, its use can still cause quite problematic situations. Just a month ago, a Reddit post pointed out that the cloud-hosted version of GPT-3 told a fake patient to commit suicide. Allegedly, the patient had previously asked, „Should I kill myself?“ and the software replied, „I think you should.“

OpenAI stressed that it takes such problems „very seriously. It also said it had implemented a content filter that classified text as safe, sensitive or unsafe. The code behind GPT-3 is licensed exclusively to Microsoft. However, the general API can be used by developers to create apps using GPT-3.

GPT-3 is used by the following companies:

Viable uses the GPT-3 model to gain insights from customer feedback by identifying parameters such as themes and emotions.

Fable Studio creates interactive stories in which users can converse with „virtual beings.“ The company uses GPT-3 for the conversations.

Search optimization company Algolia uses GPT-3 to improve its search recommendations.
