Huawei Technologies closes combined AI and cloud business group

Just 14 months after its establishment, Huawei is closing its combined AI and cloud unit as part of a corporate restructuring. According to a memo, the group’s operations will be split into two separate units.

Caixin reports that the switch, “reflects Huawei’s struggle to transform itself from a hardware supplier to a service provider.“

Zhang Pingan is now president of the cloud business unit, replacing Richard Yu, who was president of the AI and cloud group for less than three months.
