San Francisco, 4/29/2021

Apple’s video creation app Clips now allows iPhone 12 Pro users to add AR effects activated by the lidar scanner to make them more immersive. The new AR Spaces feature lets users add AR confetti, lasers and more that can be placed behind people and furniture, as well as on walls and floors. Apple unveiled the update during its special event on April 20.

AR Spaces, which also works with the 2020/2021 iPad Pro, allows users to scan a room and see a live preview of seven effects: Prima, Confetti, Disco, Dance Floor, Glitter, Stardust and Hearts.

Clips, which uses Apple’s ARKit, can now add the immersive visual effects to videos powered by Lidar that map the contours of a room. Finally, it can also identify people/objects on camera and make the effects appear behind and in front of them. Apple says this also works with Clips AR-animated stickers, text labels and emojis.

Clips 3.1 is available now for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 14.5 or later, and iPad running iPadOS 14.5.
