Facebook: Quest Pro offers „higher-quality virtual – reality experience“

Facebook is working on an Oculus Quest Pro that may have built-in eye and face tracking technology, according to Mark Zuckerberg. The CEO spoke with CNET about the company’s next standalone headset and other VR ambitions.

Zuckerberg confirmed that the Quest Pro will be a „higher-end virtual reality experience“ than its predecessor, the Quest 2. Face and eye tracking would be a first for an Oculus headset and would make it compete with HTC Vive’s Pro Eye. Eye tracking could tell the headset what object the user is looking directly at, while face tracking would capture and translate a user’s mouth movements in virtual chat apps for more realistic avatar interactions.

Horizon, Facebook’s social VR experience currently in beta, is a „very high priority,“ according to Zuckerberg. It will help the company build a „broader metaverse that spans virtual and augmented reality,“ he said.

„We want as many people as possible to be able to experience virtual reality and be able to jump into the metaverse and then be able to have those social experiences within that“ he added.
