Civil rights activists demand: Permanently halt sale of „Recognition“

New York, 5/20/2021

Several dozen civil rights groups have called on Amazon to permanently stop selling facial recognition technology to law enforcement. Background: the one-year ban on the sale of Amazon’s „Rekognition“ facial recognition software to law enforcement is about to expire.

It could be proven that „Recognotion“ reacts incorrectly on people with darker skin color. Thus Latin American members of the US – Congress were marked as criminals. As a result, police violence against the black community has increased.

Meanwhile, IBM and Microsoft have halted sales of their facial recognition technology because of concerns about discrimination in law enforcement and in general.
