Russia modernizes military with autonomous weapons/ High-tech partner is China

The nonprofit Research and Analysis Group worked with the Pentagon’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) on the report „Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy in Russia.“

According to a report titled „Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy in Russia“ ,submitted by the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC), Russian military strategists are working to establish „information dominance on the battlefield.“ This includes the appropriate use of data to support AI technologies, according to the report.

China, in particular, is now a key partner for Moscow for „high technology in general and artificial intelligence in particular.“ The report lists a number of AI/autonomous platforms developed by the Russian military. These include specialized mines, vehicles and an anthropomorphic robot.

Just a few days ago, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu indicated that the country is now producing combat robots with autonomous capabilities. He was quoted as saying, „What has emerged are no longer experiments, because the robots are capable of fighting on their own.“

Russia has already developed AI to control swarms of underwater drones that could protect against enemy aircraft carriers.
