IBM announces new AI and cloud services for Verizon and Telefonica

IBM announced that it will offer new AI and cloud services for Verizon and Telefonica. The offerings will be supported in part by technology IBM acquired through its 2019 acquisition of software company Red Hat.

Verizon will use Red Hat’s technology to automate its 5G network and develop an open hybrid cloud platform, while Telefonica will use IBM’s AI and blockchain technology to develop a hybrid cloud platform primarily for enterprises.

IBM’s Watson virtual assistant will run on Telefonica’s Cloud Garden container-as-a-service platform. Darell Jordan-Smith, VP of Red Hat, said this is a disruptive time for telecom companies moving toward augmented reality, machine learning and AI.

Last week, IBM announced the development of AI-powered „anti-bias“ tools to help online advertisers show their ads to more than just certain groups, such as men or wealthy people.
