Nvidia and Google to set up AI-on-5G innovation lab
New York, 7/2/2021
Nvidia is partnering with Google to establish an AI-on-5G Innovation Lab where AI software partners can develop and test solutions for smart cities, factories and other advanced applications. The partners will begin building the Lab in H2 2021, though they have not yet announced a location.
At the Lab, industrial companies, network operators and system integrators will be able to test their AI-on-5G business apps based on Google Anthos using Nvidia’s Aerial 5G infrastructure, according to Ronnie Vasishta, Nvidia’s SVP of Telecom.
Nvidia announced the plans at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. There, it also unveiled the option for customers to use Arm-based CPUs with its Aerial A100 AI-on-5G platform.
Nvidia unveiled partnerships for the AI-on-5G platform earlier this year. The AI-on-5G on a server consists of an Nvidia A100 GPU, a BlueField 2 data processing chip and an Arm or x86 processor from Intel and AMD. The first use cases for AI-on-5G will be computer vision apps aimed at enterprises that require 5G bandwidth.
Three of the world’s largest chipmakers have now voiced support for Nvidia’s $40 billion arm acquisition. The move improves Nvidia’s chances of getting U.K. regulators’ approval for the deal.
