Sir Richard Branson gets serious
New York, 8.7.2021
On July 11, Sir Richard Branson plans to fly to the edge of space. If everything goes smoothly, Branson will open his space tourism business.
Branson founded Virgin Galactic in 2004 with the goal of building a space tourism company. He will travel on the VSS Unity spacecraft to an altitude of 90 km (295,000 ft), which is considered the edge of space.
If successful, the test will pave the way for commercial operations. Virgin Galactic plans to fly its first paying passengers in early 2022. Already, 600 people have made deposits for one of the future flights. The price of a full ticket will be $250,000.
The company’s shares rose more than 20% in premarket trading from a close of $43.19 on Thursday.
