Tesla: up 1000% comparing quarters of 2021 and 2020
San Francisco, 7/30/2021
For Q2, Tesla has reported a profit of $1.14 billion. This represents an increase of almost 1,000% over Q2 2020 of $104 million. This is the eighth consecutive profitable quarter.
The company shipped 200,000 cars from April to June. The solar and energy storage divisions were also profitable for the first time.
Tesla also announced it would delay production of its semi truck until 2022, citing supply chain challenges and limited battery cell availability. The company’s entry into the commercial truck market is fully electric and can drive semi-autonomously.

Huawei’s director of autonomous driving, Su Qing, lost his job after being critical of Tesla at the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence. The manager claimed that Tesla reported a high accident rate and that its Autopilot had led to the deaths of drivers and passengers. This sparked a fierce controversy in China.
Huawei confirmed Su Qing’s replacement from his post. He would move to a reserve team for training and sales .
Background: Autopilot is not an autonomous driving system, but software, cameras and sensors that assist drivers to avoid accidents.
Since 2015, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has investigated 31 Tesla accidents, 25 of which involved Autopilot, and reported 10 fatalities.
Since 2016, at least three Tesla drivers have died in crashes in which Autopilot was engaged but failed to detect objects, including two semi-trucks and a concrete barrier.
