Cassie, the bipedal robot developed by Agility Robotics, has run 5 kilometers without a leash on a single battery charge. He completed the 5 kilometer run in 43 minutes and 49 seconds.
Cassie accomplished this feat after a team of Oregon State University engineers trained him using a deep reinforcement learning algorithm. The same team had previously taught the robot how to walk up and down stairs without LIDAR or cameras.
Agility Robotics was co-founded in 2015 by professors at Oregon State University.
The company’s robots are designed to „meet real-world needs for robust, efficient and highly capable mobility platforms.“
Agility has raised a total of $28.8 million in three rounds of funding. In 2017, Agility developed Cassie after receiving a $1 million grant from the Department of Defense.
