Chip crisis: semiconductor demand significantly exceeds production capabilities

Beijing, 19.8.2021

In China, the production of integrated circuits increased by 47.3% to 203.6 billion units by the end of July.

The rapid increase in demand for semiconductors was cited as the cause. At the same time, the global chip shortage is dominating events in more and more industries. The automotive, smartphone, laptop and household appliance industries are all severely affected.

Lacking sufficient chip supplies, Chinese auto production plunged 15.8% in July.

Last month, Intel’s CEO warned that the bottleneck could last until next year and supply would not recover until 2023.
