U.S. tech companies to invest billions in cybersecurity

Washington, 8/26/2021

The heads of the US tech – giants attended a meeting yesterday after an invitation from the White House to discuss the issue of cybersecurity.

Google and Microsoft subsequently said they would invest billions in the fight against cybercrime in the future. „The reality is that most of our critical infrastructure (…) is run by the private sector, and the government cannot meet this challenge alone,“ said US – President Joe Biden before the meeting .

Apple announced a new program to continuously improve security throughout its technology supply chain. The company will therefore work with its suppliers and offer security training to detect vulnerabilities as early as possible. Microsoft wants to invest the huge sum of 20 billion US dollars, for example, to be able to provide advanced security solutions more quickly.

Google, according to the U.S. government, plans to invest more than $10 billion in certain cybersecurity programs over the next five years and also help 100,000 Americans earn industry-recognized digital skills certificates. Accordingly, Amazon announced that it would make the security training it offers its employees available to the public free of charge. Other companies, such as Microsoft and IBM, are also said to have made similar pledges.

Cybersecurity is a national and economic security imperative for the government, the White House stressed. Cybersecurity is given a higher priority „than ever before.“
