Alibaba boosts startup DeepRoute.ai as new investor

Shenzen, Aug. 30, 2021

Alibaba is now an investor in self-driving startup DeepRoute.ai. The e-commerce giant owns a 19.68% stake in DeepRoute, which launched an autonomous robot cab service in Shenzen, China, last month.

DeepRoute specializes in Level 4 self-driving vehicles for OEM Tier 1 suppliers, ride-hailing and logistics companies. It was the first company to conduct tests with robotaxis in Shenzen. Its 20 self-driving cabs with safety drivers now carry adult passengers in the central business district.

Alibaba also has a stake in Chinese autonomous startup AutoX. The company is working with Cainiao to develop self-driving trucks and with China’s SAIC Motor on Internet-enabled cars.
