Samsung: The South Koreans know no limits

Seoul, 9/1/2021

Samsung will increase its investment in research and development by 33% to more than $205 billion over the next three years. The investment will focus on expanding its logic chips, memory chips and biopharmaceuticals businesses.

Major acquisitions in AI, 5G, and automotive technology are also under consideration. Samsung and Moderna agreed in May that the Koreans will handle packaging for vaccines in the future.

There are also plans to build two new chip factories. The $17 billion factory planned in Arizona will also be the company’s entry into semiconductor production.

Finally, the following announcements caused a particular stir:

– Samsung plans to make a major acquisition in the areas of artificial intelligence, 5G mobile networks and/or automotive technology within three years.

– during this period, it will increase its investment in research and development to $205 billion, a 33% increase.

– to develop its next chipset for smartphones, Samsung will use Synopsys‘ AI technology. The design of next-generation Exynos processors for smartphones, tablets, cameras and other devices will be automated.
