San Francisco, Oct. 6, 2021

DeepMind, Alphabet’s artificial intelligence division, turned a profit last year.

Revenue was $59.6 million in 2020, up from a loss of $649 million in 2019, and personnel costs were $643 million, up from $635 million in 2019.

The unit has recently been working on projects such as improving Google Assistant voice and refining estimated arrival times on Google Maps by 50%. Last week, DeepMind announced a new deep generative model capable of predicting weather in specific locations down to a five-minute window. In July, DeepMind announced that it was able to predict protein structure for humans and a number of other organisms.
