More and more industrial robots are being used in factories. According to the “World Robotics 2021” report, there are currently around 3 million.

The strongest demand came from China in 2020. In the world’s largest robotics market, 168,000 new machine helpers were installed. So far, the automotive industry has been the leading customer. This year, however, the electronics industry has taken the lead.
It is noteworthy that 71 percent of new installations were registered in Asia. The lion’s share was secured by the following countries:
1. China. Those 168,400 robots delivered represent a 20% increase over the previous year. The operating inventory of 943,223 units is only just below the 1 – million mark.
2. Japan: here, a decline was reported for the second year in succession. New installations totaled 38,653 units, 23% less than in 2020, due to weak demand from the electronics and automotive industries as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic and the semiconductor crisis.
3. sales in the Republic of Korea fell by 7% to 30,506 units. Operating inventory increased by 6% to 342,983 units.
Germany is the most automated economy in the EU, with around 230,000 industrial robots.
And the outlook?
For 2021, IFR President Milton Guerry expects double-digit growth . “The robotics market will recover strongly worldwide: We expect growth of around 13% to 435,000 units in 2021 – surpassing the record level of 2018.”
