South Korea develops super-ki complex

Seoul, Nov. 28, 2021

South Korea has officially begun development of a $332 million artificial intelligence complex that will include a national AI data center, research space and offices for startup companies. The project is expected to be completed by 2024.

The 24,820-square-meter complex in Gwangju, 330 kilometers south of Seoul, is expected to support new jobs and the growth of AI in the post-COVID era. At an opening ceremony for a national AI data center earlier this year, President Moon Jae said it will help Korea move beyond its leadership role in the information and communications industry to become an „AI powerhouse.“

The complex is expected to „promote AI convergence R&D and business growth by focusing on startup support and education.“ Invest Korea notes that the complex will support 81 AI-focused companies and produce 360 AI professionals each year.
