Adobe Analytics: Cyber Monday sales down

New York, 12/1/2020

Adobe Analytics reported a 1.4% year-over-year decline in Cyber Monday sales, the first decline since it began collecting data in 2012.

Consumers spent a total of $10.7 billion on Monday, according to the analytics firm. Discounts on electronics, one of the most popular categories, averaged 12% on the day. Spending was down from sales of $10.8 billion in 2020.

Out-of-stock reports, which were mostly electronics and appliances, increased 124% since January 2020, according to Adobe.

In-store purchases on Black Friday were down 28.3% compared to 2019, before the pandemic began.

Adobe still expects digital sales to reach $207 billion between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, which would represent a record 10% increase. The company noted that consumers did not wait for discounts due to the many early deals in October.
