Microsoft- CEO sells half of his stock portfolio- why?

New York, Dec. 1, 2021

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sold about half of his shares (838,584 shares ) on Nov. 22 and 23, according to an SEC- report.

He now has ~831,000 shares left, worth about $280 million. Nadella plans to use the proceeds for personal financing and diversification purposes, a Microsoft spokesperson said.

Microsoft has grown 780% since Nadella became CEO in 2014 and is valued at $2.5 billion. As a result, the company in October surpassed Apple as the most valuable publicly traded company in the

World.

The stock sale came ahead of the introduction of a 7% tax on long-term capital gains of more than $250,000 a year in Washington state.
