Representatives from Google, Amazon and other tech giants discussed cybersecurity and threats posed by open-source software at a White House meeting over the weekend.
The talks come after White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan called open-source software a “key national security concern” in a letter to tech executives in December.
In the letter, Sullivan cited last month’s discovery of a security flaw in the open-source software Apache Log4j, which companies use to log data in applications.
The central theme of the meeting was the increasing frequency of attacks and how to improve the security of open source software. Other participants included IBM, Microsoft and Meta, as well as representatives from the Pentagon, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Commerce.
