Boeing to invest $450 million in Wisk Aero

New York, Jan. 31, 2022

Boeing announced a $450 million investment in Wisk Aero, a developer of pilotless air cabs. The electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) company is a joint venture between Boeing and Kitty Hawk, the air taxi company funded by Google co-founder Larry Page .

Wisk is developing technology for pilotless aircraft to transport passengers on short-haul routes through cities. The startup is specifically focused on autonomous flights. Wisk has noted that its $450 million investment makes it one of the best-funded companies in the world working on advanced air mobility.

Boeing owns an undisclosed majority stake in Wisk. The companies will reportedly seek approval of the first passenger vehicle around 2028.

Within five years of approval, an estimated 14 million eVTOL flights are expected to be operated annually in about 20 major markets worldwide.
