Will Magdeburg be the site for Intel’s new chip factory?

Magdeburg, 28.2.2020

Magdeburg is set to win Intel’s bid for the billion-dollar chip factory. The decision is to be made public on March 4.
Magdeburg thus received preference over Penzing in Bavaria and Dresden in Saxony. Globalfoundries, Infineon and Bosch have already positioned themselves there.
Whether the Saxon metropolis is overjoyed about the approximately 80 billion euros that Intel wants to invest here will be clarified by the beginning of March at the latest. Finally, it must be borne in mind that Intel has other locations in the EU in mind. France and Italy in particular are mentioned. So far, Intel is only represented in Europe with one factory in Ireland.
In the opinion of Intel CEO Gelsinger, the following factors speak in favor of the location in Magdeburg: subsidies, sufficient skilled workers (from the Otto von Guericke University), plenty of space in the Eulenburg industrial area. Another advantage: it is not an earthquake zone.
