On Wednesday, the U.S. – Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Unit awarded a contract for an undisclosed amount to program partner Philips Healthcare.
The contract will allow for the tracking of an additional 200 participants who wear fitness trackers and from whom data such as heart rate, respiration rate and skin temperature is collected. An algorithm processes the data to calculate a score from 1-100, with higher numbers indicating a higher likelihood of viral infection.
In a previous study, the algorithm detected 73% of 491 people who were positive for COVID-19- 2 – 3 days before the diagnostic test.
