The United States Treasury Department, FBI and CISA have warned of North Korean hackers targeting blockchain companies. The attacks are being carried out by Lazarus Group.
Under the name TraderTraitor, North Korean threat entities have been operating in the Web3 industry since 2020. Targeted organizations include crypto exchanges, DeFi protocols, play-to-earn crypto video games, crypto trading companies, venture capital funds that invest in crypto, and individual holders of large amounts of crypto or valuable NFTs.
The hackers lure by saying that weaponized cryptocurrency apps for Windows and macOS can be downloaded to then spread malware on the network. The lure in this case is job offers, which the hackers then use to gain access to the victim’s network.
