FBI: Black Cat ransomware gang breached 60 organizations

Washington, 4/22/2022

The FBI has determined that the Black Cat ransomware gang, also known as ALPHV, has penetrated the networks of at least 60 organizations worldwide. The intrusions occurred between November 2021 and March 2022.

The FBI’s cyber division released the information in a TLP: WHITE Flash Alert on Wednesday. The Flash Alert is part of a series of similar reports that highlight the tactics, techniques and procedures of groups associated with ransomware variants identified in FBI investigations.

BlackCat/ALPHV is the first ransomware group to hack U.S. organizations using RUST, a programming language considered more secure. Their ransomware supports multiple encryption methods, resulting in a wider range of attacks.

According to the FBI, many of BlackCat/ALPHV’s developers and money launderers are connected to DarkSide /BlackMatter.
