What’s driving Musk to acquire Twitter?

San Francisco, 24.4.2022
Elon Musk has upped the ante: he is now offering $46.5 billion for Twitter, stressing that this is his „best and final offer“ . This puts him above the current stock market value, but far below the peak valuation of February 2021.
The reaction of the board of directors was reportedly not as negative as it was when the first offer was made. However, whether the negotiations can be concluded with a deal at the end of this week is by no means certain.
Although it was said after a meeting on Sunday that progress had been made, the negotiators did not hide the fact that some differences still had to be ironed out.
What does Musk want with the online service?
In his first statement, he stressed that he would eliminate the alleged restrictions on free speech on the short message service. Then he got more specific. Now it said that after the buyout he would eliminate bots and spam on the platform. The next measure might not please some users who love anonymity: Musk wants to authenticate every user. Currently, this is said to be the case for only 400,000 users. He would introduce an edit button that would allow published tweets to be edited,
Then the richest man in the world reveals his real goal: He would establish Twitter as a global platform for freedom of expression. His goal: to strengthen democracy.
What Musk certainly doesn’t like are these facts: Twitter is currently in the red. The loss for the 2021 fiscal year was reported at $221 million.
