TikTok looks to expand into the gaming space

Singapore, 5/20/2022

TikTok is testing games on its platform in Vietnam in a bid to expand into the gaming space. This would increase the time users spend on the TikTok app and boost the company’s advertising revenue. These gaming features are expected to be launched in Southeast Asian markets in Q3 2022.

TikTok is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, which began allowing games on TikTok’s Chinese version, Douyin, in 2019. ByteDance could draw from this games offering for TikTok.

The games would likely include advertising. ByteDance is expected to share revenue with game developers.

TikTok was reportedly the world’s most downloaded app last quarter, overtaking Instagram. It is now the fifth app ever and the only app not owned by Meta to surpass the 3.5 billion downloads mark in history.
