Microsoft to hire fewer staff
San Francisco, 5/30/2022

Microsoft is the latest technology company to announce a slowdown in its hiring process.

According to reports, all new hires in Microsoft’s Windows, Office and Teams groups must be approved by EVP Rajesh Jha from now on. This is to ensure that „the right resources are aligned to the right opportunity,“ according to Microsoft.
The hiring freeze is limited to those groups and does not apply companywide.
Microsoft said it will continue to hire new employees.
Just a few days ago, Microsoft announced that it will nearly double its budget for employee salaries in order to retain them.
The company plans to raise salaries, especially for early- and mid-career employees, and increase annual stock awards.
Other tech companies that have hired fewer employees during the downturn include Twitter, Meta, Snap, Uber, Redfin, Salesforce and Nvidia.
While tech companies are slowing or freezing hiring and even withdrawing job openings, engineers and some other positions remain in high demand.
