New York government created 800 social robots

New York, 5/30/2022
The New York government has partnered with Intuition Robotics to distribute more than 800 ElliQ social robots to the elderly. Seniors in the state can use the AI and voice-controlled robot for medication reminders, conversations, phone calls and wellness tips.
The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) purchased the ElliQ devices from Intuition for an undisclosed price. The agency will select individuals based on criteria such as age and access to Wi-Fi. Intuition will handle installation and training.
After several years of beta testing, Intuition launched ElliQ as a commercial product in March. The robot, described as a more „proactive“ version of Alexa, can act as a conversation companion to combat social isolation.
It consists of a swiveling „face“ with speakers and a microphone. It also has a touchscreen tablet that can display video calls and images.
Intuition developed ElliQ with fuseproject, an industrial design firm. Initial sales are concentrated in South Florida.
