Picsart takes photo editing to higher level thanks to AI

Popular photo editing app Picsart has added an AI – powered tool to upscale and enhance images.

The company uses advanced AI models to add pixels, blur or remove pixelated effects, and sharpen faces and scenes. The technology can upscale images to a higher resolution, remove noise and improve overall photo quality. It’s now available in Picsart’s iOS app to enhance or restore facial elements in images.

A writer for TechCrunch tested the tool using an old photo with a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. Picsart’s AI successfully scaled it up to 2560 x 2048 and removed the digital noise. The feature is also available in Picsart’s enterprise API offering.

Background:

Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw, Gigapixel AI and Google also offer upscaling technology. PicsArt argues that its tool is cheaper, easier and faster.

The company has invested heavily in AI, establishing an AI research and development division, Picsart AI Research (PAIR), in 2021.

The in-house division was involved in developing the one-touch background removal tool and AI-generated fonts.

Picsart was valued at more than $1 billion in August 2021 in a $130 million funding round led by SoftBank’s AI-focused Vision Fund 2.
