Google search goes after low-quality content

San Francisco, 8/22/2022

Google announced a search update that aims to show more helpful and educational content instead of „clickbait.“

Google says it will roll out the „helpful content update“ next week for global English-language search.

The algorithm update is intended to help deliver more high-quality content that is „made by and for people,“ Google says. The goal is to exclude unoriginal and low-quality content from ranking highly in search.

Tests have shown that search results are improved, especially in the areas of online education, arts and entertainment, shopping and technology-related content.

Google is also using an updated AI model to improve search results for „featured snippets“ – the highlighted text at the top of Google search results pages.
